Warriors’ Stephen Curry Suffers Broken Left Hand
Curry suffered the injury after a hard fall to the floor, following a collision with Suns’ center Aron Bynes, who fell on top of Curry’s hand resulting in a fracture in the second matacarpal, the bane in the hand below the index finger, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
“Obviously it’s been a tough start for us on many levels,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after the game. “So we’re just trying to find our footing. And obviously this puts us in a tough spot. So we’ll assess it, and we’ll go from there.”
“Just one of those things,” Kerr said. “Aron Baynes came up after the game and just wanted to know how Steph was doing. You could tell he felt really bad. It was just a random basketball play, so stuff happens.”
“I saw it happen,” Warrior’s owner Joe Lacob said. “So obviously sad. It’s not good. But sort of a silver lining maybe, because some of our young players are going to get an opportunity to play. So I like our young players a heck of a lot. So I think it’s a silver lining. Ironically, I’m an optimist, so we’ll see what happens.”
With so many injuries piling up on a disappointing start to the season for Golden State, Lacob dismissed the idea of tanking.
“It is against every single thing I and we stand for,” Lacob said, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. “We will fight like hell. Develop our young guys. Learn to win. You don’t get better by trying to lose. Our entire organization is about winning. And we will win. Some bumps in the road, perhaps. But we will never accept losing.”
Lacob added that the focus remains on the long-term plan for the Warriors.
“I’m just telling you that the bottom line is I’m not negative and I’m not going to get negative,” Lacob said, according to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami and Ethan Strauss. “I’m an optimist and we’re building something. You’re always looking short term and you’re looking intermediate term and you’re looking long term.
“And I think we’ve got a lot of good young players in place,” he continued. “Potentially, there’s a silver lining in all of this, who knows? And I’m very optimistic about our future. Very optimistic about our future. I think we’re going to be there at some point. Can’t say when. We’ve obviously got a lot of injuries now, but we’re going to be there.”
