Mirotic has been out of action since December 10th with a right ankle injury, but says he is close to returning to action.
“I’m getting better every day,” Mirotic said, according to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com . “I’m doing treatment. A lot of work individually, on the court, off the court. Today was a great day because we did a lot of cardio also, a lot of movement laterally. So, it was good. It was pretty good.”
Mirotic has averaged 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over 25 games this season for New Orleans.
“Being away was hard, but I’m always trying to be positive and learning what I can do to help the team to get better. I’m almost there and just looking forward to being back.”
NBA Trade Deadline
February 7th, 2019 at 3 p.m. ET is the deadline for the 2019 NBA trade deadline. Fans and analysts all have their eyes on Anthony Davis. New Orleans Pelicans All-Star power forward, center Anthony Davis could possibly leave the Pelicans. The Los Angeles Lakers have been pushing to bring Davis to LA to join Lebron James. The New York Knicks have added themselves to be an option for the Davis trade.
According to Marc Stein article Knicks and Lakers Said to Be Top Destinations for Anthony Davis; “Anthony Davis has the Knicks on equal footing with the Los Angeles Lakers as he considers what teams he would be willing to join on a long -term deal after securing a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans”. The Knicks are an option for the Davis. 3 p.m. ET today will determine if Davis leaves or stays on New Orleans.
Bucks Interested in Pelicans’ Nikola Mirotic
Mirotic is averaging 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game this season for New Orleans.
Suns Interested in Being 3rd Teal in Lakers, Pelicans Trade
Their division rival, the Phoenix Suns.
According to the Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli and Broderick Turner, the Suns have reached out to both the Lakers and the Pelicans and made it clear that they are interested in joining the trade as a third team.
The Suns have their eyes on Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, who would be a great fit for the young Suns.
It’s not clear what the Suns could offer outside of their 2019 first round pick, which I assume is completely off the table, but they do have other draft picks and young players such as Dragan Bender, to throw into the fray.
Lonzo’s father, LaVar, ruined the appeal of Lonzo for the Pelicans, after he made comments about his desire to see Lonzo in Phoenix instead, recently.
According to Fletcher Mackel of WDSU, the Pelicans “want no part of the Ball circus.”
This would make the inclusion of the Suns in trade talks beneficial, as it gets Ball a clear landing spot, and provides the Lakers with more assets to offer New Orleans.
