Published

on

New Orleans Pelicans’ big man Nikola Mirotic is getting close to making his return to the court, which would greatly help the Pelicans as they fight for a Western Conference playoff berth.

Mirotic has been out of action since December 10th with a right ankle injury, but says he is close to returning to action.

“I’m getting better every day,” Mirotic said, according to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com . “I’m doing treatment. A lot of work individually, on the court, off the court. Today was a great day because we did a lot of cardio also, a lot of movement laterally. So, it was good. It was pretty good.”

Mirotic has averaged 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over 25 games this season for New Orleans.

“Being away was hard, but I’m always trying to be positive and learning what I can do to help the team to get better. I’m almost there and just looking forward to being back.”

The option will cost $1.7 million, and given the resurgent play of Okafor, who seemed headed for bust status prior to getting a chance in New Orleans, it’s an affordable price to pay.

Okafor really shined when he took over playing time from Anthony Davis last season and finished the year averaging 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game
