Golden State Warriors big man DeMarcus Cousins isn’t worried that his return to the court, and debut with the team, will cause the team to miss a beat due to their work ethic, and team IQ.
Cousins, who ruptured his Achilles last year, was expected to return before Christmas, but is now instead continuing to rehab with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League.
“Of course, it will be an adjustment period coming in midseason,” Cousins said, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “But it is a team full of high IQs, so we will figure it out. Once the ball goes up, it will figure itself out. I trust the coaching staff. I trust my work ethic and our ability to come together. We will see what happens.”
Warriors’ DeMarcus Cousins Not Close to Return
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says that center DeMarcus Cousins isn’t that close to making his return to the court, and essentially his debut with the team.
“We’re not really that close,” Kerr said of Cousins’ progress, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
“I don’t want this to be about: ‘Hey, we’re right there.’ We’re not right there. It’s still going to be some time. We’re going to be patient and continue to give DeMarcus the space he needs to prepare. When the time is right, we’ll have some things planned for him.”
Golden State signed Cousins to the mid-level exception of $5.3 million during the offseason.
Warriors’ DeMarcus Cousins Discusses Recovery from Achilles Injury
Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins is discussing the difficulat road to recovery he has faced as he has battled back from the Achilles injury he suffered late last season while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans.
“It’s really tested me as a person, as a man, as an athlete” Cousins said, according to Logan Murdock The Mercury News. I’ve had a lot of dark days, a lot of good days. I’ve questioned myself a lot but I’ve found a way to overcome all those bad feelings so I see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Cousins is currently practicing with the team and is inching closer to a return to the court, where he will make his official debut with Golden State.
Warriors’ Damian Jones Undergoes Pectoral Surgery
Per the announcement, Jones will be out indefinitely, and if he does end up missing the rest of the season Golden State could apply for a disabled player exception although it wouldn’t be a financial rewarding route.
Jones has chipped in 5.4 ppg and 3.1 rpg for the Warriors this season.
