New Orleans Pelicans’ superstar big man Anthony Davis will be mentioned a lot in trade rumors, but in case you’re thinking that the All-Star is looking for a way out of the Big Easy, Davis is reportedly looking for a reason to stay.
“My sense has always been with Anthony that he is always: some players are looking for reasons to stay and some players are looking for reasons to leave,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said, during an appearance on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective Show (h/t RealGM). “I’ve always thought that Anthony is a guy looking for reasons to stay in New Orleans. And I think that will continue to be the case until he feels he’s out of them.
“I do think down the line that the Boston and L.A., if he became available, that will be interesting, especially if the Lakers get shut out this summer.”
Pelicans’ Nikola Mirotic Close to Returning
Mirotic has been out of action since December 10th with a right ankle injury, but says he is close to returning to action.
“I’m getting better every day,” Mirotic said, according to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com . “I’m doing treatment. A lot of work individually, on the court, off the court. Today was a great day because we did a lot of cardio also, a lot of movement laterally. So, it was good. It was pretty good.”
Mirotic has averaged 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over 25 games this season for New Orleans.
“Being away was hard, but I’m always trying to be positive and learning what I can do to help the team to get better. I’m almost there and just looking forward to being back.”
Pelicans, Rockets Interested in Bulls’ Justin Holiday
Holiday is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2019, and with Chicago looking to rebuild, he could fetch some draft pick assets via a trade.
Holiday is averaging 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Bulls this season.
Pelicans’ Alvin Gentry Says Team Will Not Trade Anthony Davis
As the sports world continues to talk about New Orleans Pelicans’ superstar Anthony Davis’ likely departure from the team in free agency, and a potential trade to teams such as the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers, to name a few, head coach Alvin Gentry is doing his part to squash the scuttlebutt.
“We’re not trading him,” Gentry said of any potential trade involving Davis, according to Steve Aschburner of NBA.com.
“I can say that to the world. We’re not gonna trade him, no matter what. That’s not an option. It doesn’t matter what anybody says or does. We’re not trading Anthony Davis.”
Despite the proclamation, the trade rumor fires will continue to burn all season long, and until Davis reaches the free agent market.
