Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins is expected to miss several more weeks of action due to a nagging ankle injury, with a projected return to the court slated for early November, according to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Collins has missed the first three games of the regular season and he underwent a non-surgical procedure, categorized as an injection, earlier this month, but it has not helped him return to the court.
Collins was named to the All-Rookie second team last season, and is one of the Hawks’ building blocks of the future.
Hawks’ Kevin Huerter Says Team Focused on Improving
Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Kevin Huerter knows that the team is on the rise, but says that they aren’t focused on making the playoffs, instead looking to make an improvement.
“Honestly, no,” Huerter said, according to Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hypewhen asked if the Hawks have talked about possibly making the playoffs.
“Playoffs, for us, isn’t really a word we talk about – all we talk about is winning more than 29 games. We know how honestly close we were last year – we weren’t too far off from that eighth seed – but we’re probably not going to talk about it for most of the year. It’s not something we talk about in the locker room, trying to sneak in [to the playoffs]. It’s literally just, “We’re going to win more than 29 games and continue to get better.” Then whatever happens, happens.”
While a playoff trip would certainly be exciting, the Hawks just want to trust the process of their development.
Hawks Acquire Chandler Parsons from Grizzlies for Solomon Hill, Miles Plumlee
Memphis has been trying to unload Parsons following the ill-advised decision to give him a four-year, $94.4 million deal to take him away from the Dallas Mavericks.
Parsons is due $24.1 million during the last year of his contract.
Knicks, Hawks Considering Trade for 3rd Overall Pick
The New York Knicks are considering trading out of the 3rd overall slot in the 2019 NBA Draft, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz.
The Knicks are considering dealing the 3rd overall pick to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the Hawks’ 8th and 10th picks.
It is rumored that R.J. Barrett will be taken with the 3rd overall pick, assuming that both Zion Williamson and Ja Morant are both off the board.
The New Orleans Hornets are expected to take Williamson, while the Memphis Grizzlies are expected to take Ja Morant.
