Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki Talks Setback in his Recovery

Published

on

Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowtizki admitted that he suffered a setback in his recovery from the ankle surgery he underwent late last season, as head coach Rick Carlisle announced earlier during the week.

“I’ve had some foot problems. I had surgery in April and it healed okay,” Nowitzki said, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. “Told I was working out in Aug. and I think I did too much. I had a little setback. Right now it’s not great. I haven’t practiced with the team. I’m [limited] to light shooting, cardio work and lifting weights.”

Carlisle indicated that it would only a matter of weeks until the legendary German player makes his season debut, a milestone that will break former Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant’s record for most seasons with one franchise.

“Yeah. I always said, ‘Whatever is best for the team,’” Nowitzki said. “We had two tough seasons. [I’ll do] whatever helps us win. We’ll see how our team shapes up; Coach will figure out what’s best. It’s about the team, about the franchise. It’s not so much about one guy.”

A three-team trade that would have sent Jimmy Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Miami Heat is reportedly off for now.

According to The Athletic’s Tim Cato, the three-team trade between the 76ers, Heat, and Dallas Mavericks sending Butler down to Miami is off, and the Heat must now find a team other than Dallas to complete the deal.

Dallas had agreed to be the third team in the trade, with the understanding that they would get Derrick Jones Jr., but the Heat instead wanted to ship Goran Dragic to Dallas.

Dallas eventually backed off the deal saying that absorbing his deal would be too much, according to the New York Times’ Marc Stein.

Mavericks Planning to Make Offer to Tobias Harris

The Dallas Mavericks are planning to make a contract offer to Tobias Harris once free agency kicks off, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

Although the Mavs are looking to be aggressive in the free agent market with over $28 million in cap space available, they won’t be throwing a ton of money around, as they are planning to make a less-than max offer to Harris.

The Mavericks expect the Sixers to flex their financial muscle to keep Harris in Philadelphia.
