Hornets’ Tony Parker Talks Decision to Leave Spurs for Charlotte
Charlotte Hornets veteran point guard Tony Parker spent the majority of his career with the San Antonio Spurs, and he will now don a different team’s jersey for the first time during his long NBA career when he takes the court for the Hornets this upcoming season.
Parker, 36, said that the Spurs offered the same contract that the Hornets did, but that the role he would play in Charlotte was different than the one that the Spurs had planned for him, also noting that he wanted to play for his idol Michael Jordan.
“The Spurs offered me the same thing (contractually) as Charlotte, but it was more about the role,” Parker said, during an interview with L’Espresso.
“It was not a question of money. And it’s important that people know this, because there are a lot of people who were “angry” at the Spurs, thinking the franchise had not offered me anything. Yes, they offered me something similar, but I did not want to finish assistant-coach. And that was the role they offered me, when I wanted to play.
“And when Michael Jordan called me, my idol, I thought, let’s go,” Parker continued. “For me, I feel like closing the loop, to finish my career in his club, it’s something special for me because it’s him that made me want to play basketball.”
Parker averaged 7.7 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game last season for the Spurs.
Kemba Walker Says He Will Be With Hornets For ‘A Long Time’
Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker has been at the root of trade rumors this offseason, being linked to teams such as the New York Knicks, but the veteran franchise building block doesn’t want to go anywhere.
Walker spoke about the rumors, specifically those that link him to the Knicks.
“As far as seeing me in New York, I doubt it,” Walker said, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. “I’m a Hornet, and I’m planning on being a Hornet for a long time; so, yeah, I’m not sure about that [New York].”
Walker, a Bronx native, has one year remaining in his contract worth $12 million.
“I’m not planning to leave, no,” Walker said. “It’s not up to me right now.”

The deal would send Mozgov from the Hornets to the Magic, Biyombo from Orlando to Charlotte, Stone from the Hornets to the Bulls, and Grant from the Bulls to Orlando.
NBC Sports Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill reports that the Bulls will waive Stone.
Mozgov averaged 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Nets last season. Grant averaged 8.4 points, 4.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game with the Bulls last season.
