Bucks Targeted Terry Rozier Prior To Eric Bledsoe Trade

Published

on

It’s always good to have a backup plan and the Milwaukee Bucks had just that in case they weren’t able to complete a deal for then-Suns guard Eric Bledsoe.

The deal for Bledsoe went through and he’s been a solid addition to Milwaukee’s team but during talks with Phoenix the Bucks also kept an eye on Terry Rozier of the Boston Celtics, according to Chris Mannix of The Vertical:

Milwaukee saw things differently. Everything the Bucks do is geared toward complementing Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bledsoe, Bucks officials say, does just that. In assessing the team’s needs, toughness, athleticism, speed and quickness were at the top of the list. They eyeballed a few players. Boston’s Terry Rozier was one. Bledsoe was another. Bledsoe was available. The Bucks had an asset the Suns would take (Greg Monroe) and a draft pick (a protected first-rounder) they wanted. Done deal.

If coming off bench makes sense – people make it a bigger deal than it really is. At end of the day it’s basketball. (Gordon) Hayward came off the bench & had 30 points. It’s a mindset. It’s a choice.”

The Boston Celtics have opted to pick up their 2019-2020 team options on Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Guerschon Yabusele, the team officially announced on Wednesday.

Brown’s fourth-year option guarantees his $6,534,829 cap charge for next season, while Tatum will be locked in for a  $7,830,000 cap hit for the 2019-2020 season, both moves considered to be no brainers given their development.

The decision on Yabusele, who hasn’t shown much of anything over 38 games since joining Boston, is a bit more of a surprise, but the Celtics see something in his to warrant their decision to keep him a part of their team moving forward.
