Sixers’ Markelle Fultz Confident He Can Be Major Contributor

Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz is confident that he can establish himself as a “third piece” in a ‘Big 3’ in Philadelphia with teammates Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons during the 2018-2019 regular season, despite a disappointing rookie year marred by injury and shooting struggles.

“I kind of like when people doubt me and say ‘look for another star,’” Fultz said, according toKeith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I see myself as that player. I just work every day to become better.”

“I really don’t look at other people’s goals [for him], but I definitely look at it to see myself as that next player that can step up in that role.”

Sixers head coach Brett Brown has certainly expressed his confidence in Fultz, hoping that Fultz will take advantage of a starting opportunity.

“My goal is to come and help the team in as many ways as I can,” Fultz said. “We did pretty good in making it to the playoffs, the second round.”

The New York Knicks are not expected to give Kristaps Porzingis a contract extension before the end of Monday’s deadline, which will make the budding franchise player a restricted free agent next summer, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley.
