Cavs’ Kevin Love Taking Blame for Season Opening Loss

Cleveland Cavaliers’ veteran forward Kevin Love is taking the blame for the Cavs’ season opening loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, showcasing his efforts to claim a leadership role with the team moving forward.

“That rhythm wasn’t there tonight,” Love said, according to The Athletic’s Joe Vardon. “You could tell that game action wasn’t there for me tonight. Thought I got a lot of really, really good looks on the offensive end. On the defensive end, just our switches and closing out, just my attention to detail wasn’t there.

“I told Ty after the game, I said that’s on me and I apologize. We all have to be better and I think we know it.”

Cavs’ Rodney Hood Hoping for Long-Term Deal

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Rodney Hood is hoping that he can work out a long-term deal with the team after formally accepting his one-year $3.4M qualifying offer from the Cavaliers earlier this month.

“I believe strongly in myself that after this year, I’ll be able to make Cleveland my home and we’ll get a better deal next summer,” Hood said, according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.

“Just because he signed the qualifying offer, he’s not on the first train out of here,” Hood’s agent Travis King said. “He plans to stay in Cleveland.”

Hood didn’t mesh with the Cavs roster last year after coming over in a trade with the Utah Jazz, and he was seeking $10-$12 million annually on the free agent market, which didn’t materialize for him.

“At first I kind of felt bad for myself, but then it was like I don’t want to feel this feeling again, sitting on the bench, or playing 8-10 minutes a game,” Hood said. “I want to be a big part of a really good team, so that was my focus this whole summer.”

“My twins were born here,” Hood said. “I like the community, even though I haven’t been out there a lot. I want to make this a home. It’s just didn’t happen this summer. That’s how I look at it.”

Cavs’ David Griffin Says Rodney Hood Will Surprise Fans

Published

on

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to build a new foundation after the free agent departure of LeBron James, who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this summer, and general manager David Griffin believes that one player in particular will surprise fans.

Griffin believes that Rodney Hood has a lot of potential and can establish himself as a core part of the Cavs roster.

“Cavs fans are going to see the best of Rodney Hood, because he’s capable of being what they need him to be within that framework of expectation” Griffin said, during an appearance on Wine and Gold Talk Podcast.

“He’s uber-talented; but when it’s put-up or shut up and the only thing that’s going to mark success is winning a championship, he doesn’t have that level of confidence yet,” Griffin stated. “But I think this Cavs team is going to let him find that in much the same way that he was so good with Utah [Jazz]. Members of his coaching staff told members of our coaching staff the year before I left (2017), that he was more important to them than Gordon Hayward,” Griffin said.

It appears that the Cavs are looking to invest, long-term, in Hood and will likely try to lock him up with a long-term deal sooner rather than later.
