Denver Nuggets forward Darrell Arthur has exercised his $7.4M player option for the 2018-19 season, according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania.

Denver will likely look to shop Arthur, as they have already been shopping Kenneth Faried, and they may also shop Wilson Chandler if Chandler exercises his $12,800,562 player option.

The goal for Denver is to sign Nikola Jokic to a long-term deal this summer, but a big raise could launch Denver into the luxury tax next season.

Nuggets’ Paul Millsap Hoping Team will Be Top 5 Defensively

Published

on

Denver Nuggets veteran forward Paul Millsap has defense on his mind as the team gears up for the 2018-2019 regular season and is hoping that the team can finish among the best in the NBA in defense.

“I’ve always aimed high,” Millsap said, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic. “I’m looking to crack the top five in defense. I want to say it’s hard to do, but it’s really not. You get guys locked in on the same page and staying disciplined throughout the course of the game, you can be a top-five defensive team.”

It would be a giant leap for a Denver team that has finished near the bottom of the league defensively that past few seasons, making them one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

“I believe, with the team that we have, we can scramble and get guys off the (3-point) line, rebound and run,” Millsap said. “Everything is based on practice. If we drill those habits and drill guys not stopping on one or two possessions, continue to make the necessary plays and get a rebound, you can drill that. It can be a habit you create going into the season.”

Nuggets Sign Donald Sloan

The Denver Nuggets have signed veteran guard Donald Sloan, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Sloan was signed as extra insurance with the availability of veteran guard Isaiah Thomas remains up in the air as he continues his recovery from hip surgery he had performed earlier this year in March.

Sloan averaged 18.8 PPG, 5.5 APG, and 4.2 RPG last season for the Texas Legends, the D League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.

Nuggets’ Isaiah Thomas has ‘Nothing to Prove’ Other Than Being Healthy

Published

Denver Nuggets guard Isaiah Thomas believes that he has nothing to prove other than staying healthy.

Thomas had a roller coaster 20178-2018 regular season, which saw him start the year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, following a trade from the Boston Celtics, and then saw him traded to the Los Angeles Lakers prior to signing with the Denver Nuggets this offseason.

Thomas believes he has nothing to prove, despite the slow movement in his free agency.

“Nah,” Thomas said, according to Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post during USA Basketball’s minicamp in Las Vegas.

“I don’t got nothing to prove. I just got to get healthy. I get healthy, the world knows what I bring to the table. When I averaged 30, they doubted it then. So it doesn’t matter. No matter how high or how low it gets, they’re always going to doubt.”

“I’m just focused on getting healthy, and doing whatever I can to be as healthy as possible and going out there and competing,”
