Pau Gasol Would Be Honored If Lakers Retired His Jersey

It goes without saying that if one of sports’ most storied and popular franchises wants to retire your jersey, it would be a huge honor.

Although nothing has been reported, San Antonio Spurs forward Pau Gasol, who spent time in Los Angeles with the Lakers, is someone the team could consider, at some point, to be honored.

“It would be a huge honor without a doubt,” said Gasol, according to Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News.

“We had some unbelievable years with a great team, top to bottom. It’s not something I think about, but if it ever happened, it would be a tremendous honor to join the Lakers greatest players that ever played. It would be huge.”

This is just “what if” at this point and Gasol, 37, doesn’t expect the Lakers to retire his jersey.

“It’s not something that I expect. It’s not something that I think I have done enough for. It would be an honor, and it would be a privilege. I’ll leave it at that.”
