Phoenix Suns Waive Mike James

The Phoenix Suns have waived point guard Mike James, only two weeks after he became the first two-way player in NBA history to sign a standard contract.

James’ release is in preparation for the return of Suns guard Devin Booker from a groin injury.

Phoenix preferred to keep Isaiah Canaan on the team, who has played well when given time, averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 assists in four games.

“We’d like to thank Mike for his contributions,” Suns general manager Ryan McDonough told the Arizona Republic. “He made NBA history as the first two-way player to make a team’s 15-man roster, while also establishing himself as a bona fide NBA player.
